OVO Energy Boiler Cover Review

Energy-company boiler cover that bundles neatly with your gas and electricity. Here's what OVO's plans cover, what they cost, and how to weigh them up.

HomeProvidersOVO Energy

OVO Energy is one of the UK's larger domestic energy suppliers, and like several of its rivals it also sells boiler and central heating cover. The appeal is convenience: if you're already an OVO customer, you can add cover to the same account and bill, with unlimited engineer call-outs and an annual boiler service included on most plans.

Is it insurance or a service plan? OVO's boiler cover is FCA-regulated insurance. That means it comes with the protections you'd expect from a regulated product — the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and access to the Financial Ombudsman Service if something goes wrong. That's a meaningful difference from an unregulated "service plan", which has neither.

Plans & prices

OVO offers two main tiers — Essentials and Complete — with your monthly price flexing on the call-out excess you choose. The figures below are indicative and were last checked June 2026; the headline £12/mo price applies at the higher £95 excess. Always confirm the current price, excess and exclusions on OVO's own site before you buy.

Pros

  • Bundles with your OVO energy account and bill — one supplier, one login.
  • Unlimited call-outs on covered breakdowns.
  • Annual boiler service included, worth roughly £60–£120 on its own.
  • FCA-regulated insurance, so FSCS and Financial Ombudsman protection apply.
  • Choice of excess lets you trade a lower monthly price against a higher repair charge.

Watch-outs

  • The best pricing is geared to existing OVO energy customers — quotes can differ if you're not.
  • The £12/mo headline is at the higher £95 excess; a lower excess raises the monthly cost.
  • As with most national providers, expect an initial exclusion period and pre-existing-fault exclusions.
  • Cover is generally aimed at mains-gas boilers — oil and LPG owners should check eligibility first.
  • Bundled cover can make it harder to shop around if you later switch energy supplier.

Who is it for?

OVO boiler cover makes the most sense if you're already an OVO Energy customer and you value the simplicity of one supplier, one bill and one place to manage everything. The included annual service and unlimited call-outs make the mid-priced plans reasonable value, and the regulated-insurance status gives you proper consumer protection behind the scenes.

It's a particularly comfortable fit for homeowners with a mains-gas combi or system boiler who want boiler-plus-heating cover and aren't chasing the absolute cheapest headline price. If you'd rather pay a little more for an included service and don't want to manage a separate provider, the bundle is convenient.

It's likely less ideal if you're not an OVO energy customer (where pricing can be sharper elsewhere), if you have an oil or LPG boiler, or if your priority is the lowest possible monthly cost — in which case a boiler-only plan at a higher excess from another provider may undercut it. It's always worth putting OVO side by side with our wider panel before deciding. Landlords should compare dedicated landlord boiler cover, and it helps to be clear on the different types of cover first.

Whatever you choose, read the policy documents on OVO's own site and confirm the excess, exclusions and any limits before you commit. This page is information only, not financial advice, and we may earn a commission if you buy through us.

OVO boiler cover FAQs

Is OVO boiler cover insurance or a service plan?

It is FCA-regulated insurance. That means it carries Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protection and you can escalate complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service — protections an unregulated service plan does not provide.

Do I have to be an OVO energy customer to get cover?

You don't necessarily have to be an OVO energy customer, but the most attractive pricing tends to be aimed at existing customers, and quotes can differ for non-customers. Check your own quote on OVO's site, then compare it with our panel.

How much does OVO boiler cover cost?

Indicatively (last checked June 2026), Essentials boiler-and-heating cover starts from around £12/mo at the higher £95 excess, or about £16/mo at a £60 excess. The Complete plan adds wider home cover at a higher price. Confirm current pricing on OVO's own website.
